Thank you Texas arts leaders!
Texans for the Arts Foundation held a most successful 2017 Texas Arts Advocacy Day
on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas
Over 245 arts leaders and citizen activists gathered from across the state to learn, share, and participate in the democratic process. Everyone has a story about how the arts make a difference in their own lives, in that of their families, and in their communities. On February 9th, we used our voices to speak up about the importance of investing public resources in the arts across our towns, cities, regions, state and nation.
2017 Texas Arts Advocacy Day was a day not to be missed! We began at 10:30 a.m. with “The Arts Ripple Effect” keynote by Topos Partnership's Margy Waller, followed by advocacy orientation and training, a celebration in the Capitol Rotunda, afternoon visits to our State legislators, and an evening happy hour sponsored by the Texas Cultural Trust which ended at 7:00 p.m.
2017 Texas Arts Advocacy Day inspired! It demystified arts advocacy and set attendees off on productive and rewarding visits with their legislators at the State Capitol. As artists, arts administrators, board members, and citizens interested in the arts, you are already advocating every day through your work. Thank you for joining us to learn how to put your passion about the arts into constructive and informative advocacy, through orientation, training, role-playing and more. Plus, Texans for the Arts provided materials that were left with legislators on the issues most important to all of us: increasing public support for the arts. Arts Advocacy Day was a day of camaraderie and empowerment!
Special thanks to the Texas Commission on the Arts for their generous support of 2017 Arts Advocacy Day through a grant to Texans for the Arts Foundation.
