The outbreak of COVID-19 has left us all in a state of uncertainty many of us have likely never faced.
Here at Texans for the Arts we urge you take every precaution to stay well and we wish you good health and safety in the midst of this new and evolving public health crisis. For the good of Texas and our communities, we hope the coronavirus pandemic is short-lived and that we find solutions to the social and economic consequences we are already facing. However, let us also prepare for the future we will be facing together as an arts community.
As arts leaders, we are keenly aware of the devastating effect COVID-19 is already having on our arts organizations and individual artists across the state. From the cancellation of major events to museums closing doors, from celebrations and festivals being postponed, to performing arts venues being closed, with a significant trickle down effect to individual artists and the nonprofit sector seeing anticipated income decimated and the future for job losses apparent.
This is an opportunity for all of us to share our stories, our struggles, our insights. Let this serve as a place to share information with the field about the impact that COVID-19 is having on you today, tomorrow and beyond. We all need to communcate what is happening on our local levels so that together we can find the innovative solutions that will help us see this through to the otherside of the pandemic. Here, you can comment on anything we post; but more importantly we will be sharing insights from the field. Do you have a blog post you would like to share with the arts community? A qustion you want to pose? A story you need to tell? E-mail me at [email protected] and we will share it here.
We understand that these times are unprecedented and that the arts community all across the State is mobilizing to face some of its greatest challenges to date. Texans for the Arts will remain vigilant, proactive and responsive to this crisis and the challenges it poses- but we need to do this together.
We are creators of art, music, dance, and exquisite beauty. We are also creators of community. As we respond to COVID-19, taking care of ourselves and each other, let us keep our community and the important role we play front and center.
